Dr Thai Hong practises in the western suburbs of Melbourne, providing thoughtful and complete care for patients with gastroenterology needs.

Dr Hong graduated Medicine with Honours from the University of Melbourne in 2004 and specialised in gastroenterology and hepatology in 2012. He completed his PhD fellowship  through the University of Melbourne and St Vincent’s Hospital.     Dr Hong was awarded the Young Investigator Award for 2014 by the Gastroenterological Society of Australia for his research in liver cancer and its impact on the community. This work was published in Hepatology, a top-ranked international medical journal in liver disease [Hong et al, Hepatology, 2016 (63)].

He is a consultant gastroenterologist with public appointments at St Vincent’s Hospital and Western Health and has private practices for consultation and endoscopy in Maribyrnong, Footscray, and Sydenham.

Dr Hong practises with the philosophy and values of genuine physician care, to enable wholistic shared care of patients in a manner fitting to their needs and means. Having been so generously welcomed to Australia as a refugee boy, he hopes to serve the Australian community by way of gratitude.

Outside of work, Dr Hong is an active participant in community life, hosting charity dinners, annual youth camps and a fortnightly youth group. He was the President of the Australian Vietnamese Health Professional Association of Victoria (AVHPA-V) for 2016-18, and Vice-President from 2018- to current.
